Project Description

First Visit

New Patients

Everyone is welcome here! Parents are invited to accompany their children into the treatment areas during their visits to our office.

If you are being referred to our office by a family dentist, please inform our staff of your child’s existing dental problems.  If x-rays were taken by a  previous dentist please bring them with you to your appointment.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that the child’s first visit coincide with his or her first birthday, or within 6 months of their first tooth. Often, this visit involves a simple oral examination and talking to the parents about oral hygiene techniques, and preventing dental decay.

Preparing for your First Visit

Be positive. Expect your child to have an enjoyable experience. Tell your dentist, Dr. Ali, is very gentle with children and likes to help them stay healthy. Reassure your child that the dentist and his staff will explain all procedures and answer all your questions in advance, so you do not have to worry about.

Emphasize that good dental care is incredibly important. Tell your child visit the dentist will help keep your smile bright and free from decay, and that is part of an overall strategy for a long and healthy life.

Be careful when choosing your words. It is better to refrain from using words that might cause unnecessary fear about your child. For example: “needle”, “pull”, “drill” and “hurt” are words that have negative connotations. Our office is trained to use soft words that convey the same message but are pleasant and do not scare a child. If you need help to explain something to your child before your appointment, please ask our staff for more suggestions on using a more neutral language.

Your child’s first dental visit in our office will include:

  • Meeting Dr. Angelo and his staff and becoming oriented with the dental office.
  • A thorough oral examination.
  • Cleaning of teeth, flossing, scaling (as needed) and office fluoride treatment.

  • Obtaining x-ray films for diagnostic purposes (we use digital x-rays to reduce radiation exposure)

  • A diagnosis and treatment plan with recommendations will be discussed with parent(s).

For your convenience, we have provided our new patient form here. Please print and fill out the following form and bring them to your appointment.  In addition, bring any insurance information you may have.
